Compare Documents Online — PDF & Word

Compare PDF and Word documents online. A side-by-side view highlights every insertion, deletion and edit, so you can see exactly what changed.

How to compare documents

Upload your first document in the left slot and your second document in the right slot. Both PDF and DOCX formats are accepted — you can even compare a PDF against a Word document.

Once both files are loaded, the comparison starts automatically. Changes are highlighted in red (deletions) and green (additions) directly in the document text.

Use the summary panel at the top to see the overall similarity percentage and counts of additions, deletions, and unchanged words. Scroll through both panels simultaneously to review every change in context.

Why use this document comparison tool

Complete privacy — your documents never leave your browser. All text extraction and comparison happens locally, making it safe for confidential contracts, legal documents, and unpublished manuscripts.

Cross-format comparison is unique — compare a PDF against a Word document without converting either one. Most free tools only handle same-format comparisons.

No registration, no file size limits within reason, and instant results. Just drag, drop, and compare — nothing more.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. All processing happens locally in your browser. Your files never leave your device, which makes this tool safe for confidential and legal documents.

Can I compare a PDF with a Word document?

Yes. This is one of the few free tools that support cross-format comparison. You can compare a PDF against a DOCX file side-by-side and see text changes highlighted.

What types of documents are supported?

PDF (.pdf) and Word (.docx) files are supported. The documents must have searchable text — scanned PDFs without a text layer cannot be compared.

Is there a file size or page limit?

Files up to 50MB are supported. Very large PDFs (over 100 pages) may take longer to process since all work is done in your browser.

How accurate is the comparison?

The comparison works at the word level and highlights additions, deletions, and unchanged text. For most documents the similarity percentage provides a reliable measure of how much has changed between versions.
